Soccer Recap: Monterey Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, Monterey was not quite Fremont's equal in the second half on Saturday. They fell 3-1 to the Fremont Firebirds. While losing is never fun, the Dores can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Firebirds are ranked 173rd).

Monterey's goal came courtesy of Savanna Licea, who's now up to two this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Monterey and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Fremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-1-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monterey will welcome Hollister at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fremont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Monta Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.2 goals per game this season.
