Baseball Recap: Independence Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Briggs, Independence was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the West Cowboys 16-2. The 76ers have beaten the Cowboys the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cowboys has come to flipping the script.

Derek Pigott and Richard Kearney did most of the damage at the plate: Pigott scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Kearney scored three runs and stole six bases while going 2-for-3. Those six stolen bases gave Kearney a new career-high. Deven Davis Jr was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-5.

Independence's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for West, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Independence is set to face off against their familiar foe South at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, West will challenge rival Briggs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
