Basketball Game Preview: Westmont Warriors vs. Prospect Panthers

Westmont and Prospect are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Westmont Warriors will be playing at home against the Prospect Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Prospect is hoping to do what Soquel couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Westmont's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Westmont took their game with ease, bagging a 50-23 victory over Soquel. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Knights are ranked 1011th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Prospect entered their tilt with Pioneer on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 47-25 win.

Prospect's win came from a few key players Westmont will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sadie Slaughter, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave her a new career-high. Akeisha McDaid was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Westmont has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.4 points per game. As for Prospect, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Westmont couldn't quite finish off Prospect in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 49-47. Can Westmont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
