Softball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Patriots vs. Hampton Hornets

The Sandy Creek Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the Hampton Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Sandy Creek couldn't beat Upson-Lee on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Patriots came up short against the Knights, falling 24-7. The loss put an end to the Patriots' undefeated start to the season.

Hosanna Antony was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.

Meanwhile, Hampton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 19-0 to Jones County on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Greyhounds: they've now lost five in a row.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sandy Creek fell to 2-1. As for Hampton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Sandy Creek was able to grind out a solid victory over Hampton when the teams last played back in August of 2024, winning 12-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
