Football Recap: Byers Lions vs. Falkner Eagles
Byers lost against Falkner back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lions were beaten by the Eagles 56-26. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.
Corey Willis Jr. threw for 260 yards and a pair of TDs. Cassell Vaughn was his top target, picking up 46 receiving yards.
Anthony Morgan had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 210 yards and five scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry for Falkner. Thanks to that big game, Morgan is now up to 18 rushing touchdowns on the season. Malakhi Nunley got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Byers' loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Falkner, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Byers will challenge rival Ashland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Falkner is set to face off against their familiar foe Potts Camp at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Morgan and Jeffrey Curry.
