MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 2 Austin Westlake wins third consecutive state title, beats Denton Guyer 40-21 in UIL Texas 6A D2 championship

One of the best high school football games of the year took place at Bishop Gorman High School in ESPN's GEICO State Champions Bowl Series as Graham-Kapowsin (Graham, Wash.) upset No. 3 Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) 40-36. Senior quarterback Joshua Wood found Stephen Mars Jr. for a 32-yard touchdown with :01 remaining to pull out the win. It was one of four touchdown passes for the MaxPreps Washington Football Player of the Year. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 273 yards and added 86 yards rushing.

The Eagles improve to 15-0 and won their first state title in school history on Dec. 4 beating Lake Stevens 44-7 in the 4A championship. Graham-Kapowsin will jump into the MaxPreps Top 25 in our final rankings on Monday.

Collins Hill finishes the season 15-1 and the Georgia MaxPreps Player of the Year, Travis Hunter had a monster performance with nearly 200 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He scored a 28-yard touchdown with :28 left to put the Eagles up 36-33. He also had an amazing 50-yard touchdown reception in the first half.

Cade Klubnik and No. 2 Westlake (Austin) beat Guyer (Denton) 40-21 in the UIL Texas 6A Division 2 state championship on Saturday at AT&T Stadium. The Chaparrals extended their win streak to 40 and won their third straight state title. Guyer had a 21-20 lead halfway through the third quarter but Westlake responded by scoring the final 20 points. Klubnik threw for four touchdowns and four-star junior wide receiver Jaden Greathouse had seven receptions for 237 yards and three scores.

No. 20 North Shore (Houston) won its third UIL Texas 6A Division 1 state title in four years beating No. 8 Duncanville 17-10. With the game tied 10-10 freshman quarterback Kaleb Bailey connected with David Amador for a 39-yard touchdown to put the Mustangs up 17-10 with 2:53 remaining.

No. 23 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) took part in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series opener on Friday and beat Highland (Gilbert, Ariz.) 35-24. The Lions fell behind 18-7 in the first half but scored 28 unanswered points and held the Hawks to -6 total yards in the second half. Sophomore running back Davion Gause accounted for over 200 total yards and a touchdown. 

Three MaxPreps Top 25 teams from Florida won a state title this week.

No. 19 Central (Miami) was the first nationally ranked team to play on Friday and beat Merritt Island 49-14 in the 5A championship. It was the Rockets third consecutive state title. They won the 6A title in 2019 and 2020. Sophomore Joshisa Trader had a monster performance with two long touchdown receptions and a 93-yard pick-six that changed momentum in the game. The interception return for a score put the Rockets up 21-7 late in the first half.

No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) won its third consecutive 7A state title with a 42-14 win over Tampa Bay Tech (Tampa). Senior running back Anthony Hankerson rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns while Zion Turner finished his high school career going 3-for-3 in winning state titles as the starting quarterback. Aquinas has now won a Florida best 13 state championships with nine coming over the last 15 years. 

No. 10 Jesuit (Tampa) overcame a 29-14 deficit against Pine Forest (Pensacola) to pull out a 35-29 win to claim its first state title since 1968. The Tigers defense got two crucial goal-to-goal stops in the fourth quarter and Luke Knight found Jadyn Girard on the game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass with :37 left. AJ Cottrill sealed the victory with an interception on Pine Forest's ensuing possession to win the 6A championship.
