Basketball Recap: Union City Takes a Loss

Union City and Sharpsville squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Union City had to settle for second. They fell 57-49 to the Sharpsville Blue Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-28 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, don't look at Ava Greer. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 22 points and 16 boards. That was a full 44.9% of Union City's points, marking the third time in a row Greer has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brooke Vantassel, who scored 13 points.

Union City's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Sharpsville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

As of now, neither Union City nor Sharpsville have any future games scheduled.
