Basketball Recap: Arroyo Takes a Loss

Arroyo lost against Encinal back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Arroyo Dons took a 70-53 bruising from the Encinal Jets. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 793rd, while the Jets are ranked 381st).

Encinal was led to victory by Jazzy Alcantar and Haley Huynh. Alcantar posted 19 points in addition to eight boards and six assists, while Huynh went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points and six steals. What's more, Alcantar also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Brooklynn Lacy was another key player, putting up eight points.

Arroyo's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. As for Encinal, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Arroyo has already played their next match, a 28-27 victory against Hayward on the 7th. As for Encinal, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-14 win against San Lorenzo on the 6th.
