Preview: Gregori Jaguars vs. Enochs Eagles
Gregori is 8-2 against Enochs since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Gregori Jaguars will be playing at home against the Enochs Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Gregori will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Gregori strolled past Turlock with points to spare, taking the game 55-36. Given Gregori's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Turlock is ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gregori's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Veronica Whitten, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and six blocks, and Lilly Staggs, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Whitten has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Lilly Morris was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Enochs ended up a good deal behind Turlock on Tuesday and lost 42-26. Enochs has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maya Ramsay, who scored 12 points along with two steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Oveisi, who scored five points.
Gregori's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Enochs, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Gregori have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Enochs struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Gregori took their victory against Enochs in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 56-34. Does Gregori have another victory up their sleeve, or will Enochs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
