Baseball Recap: Union County Has No Trouble Against Murray County

While Union County put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Murray County. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Indians. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-1 last Thursday.

Not much got past Tyler Richards, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Murray County off the board. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Richards.

At the plate, Lane Haney and Hayden Hughes did most of the damage at the plate: Haney scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Hughes scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Haney a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddox Patton, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Union County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Murray County, they dropped their record down to 4-19 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Coming up, Union County will challenge Coahulla Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Murray County, they will square off against Gilmer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
