Basketball Recap: Turlock Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Faith Hayes and Emma Sarmiento

Turlock Christian lost against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The game between the Turlock Christian Eagles and the Aspire Langston Hughes Academy Titans didn't end well, with the Turlock Christian Eagles falling 44-27. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Turlock Christian had strong showings from Emma Sarmiento, who posted 14 points, and Faith Hayes, who put up seven points in addition to 12 boards and five blocks. That's the most points Sarmiento has posted since back in December of 2023. Christiana Eivaz was another key player, putting up four points along with ten rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Turlock Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests.

Turlock Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Aspire Langston Hughes Academy, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-9.

Turlock Christian will head out to square off against Venture Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aspire Langston Hughes Academy has already played their next matchup (against River Islands), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
