Basketball Recap: Franklin's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Franklin had lost six straight headed into Tuesday's game, but Nicole Belasco didn't let it get to seven. The Franklin Yellowjackets came out on top against the Venture Academy Mustangs by a score of 46-35 on Tuesday thanks in part to Belasco, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points and seven rebounds. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

The team also got some help courtesy of Beyonce Garibaldi, who posted three points in addition to ten rebounds and five blocks. She is becoming a predictor of Franklin's success: when she posts at least five blocks the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when she doesn't).

Venture Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylie Watkins, who had six points along with ten boards and three steals. Kelyiana Neal was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Franklin's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9. As for Venture Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Franklin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 59-38 win against Turlock on the 11th. As for Venture Academy, they will face off against River Islands at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th.
