Basketball Recap: Willows Takes a Loss

Willows lost against East Nicolaus back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Willows Honkers received a blow as they fell 53-39 to the East Nicolaus Spartans. The Honkers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Willows still got an impressive performance from Karla DiMaggio, who posted 21 points. That was a full 53.8% of Willows' points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ytzel Plaza, who earned six points.

Makinze Massey was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds for East Nicolaus. The dominant performance gave Massey a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Avelina Machado, who had six points and five steals.

Willows' loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for East Nicolaus, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Willows didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-39 victory against Central Valley on the 21st. As for East Nicolaus, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-31 defeat against Weed on the 21st.
