Softball Recap: Eaglecrest Wins High-Profile Contest Against Golden

Eaglecrest faced Golden in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Raptors put the hurt on the Demons with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Raptors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Zaya Elliott made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lelia Kelliher, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Haisley Elliott, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Eaglecrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Golden only posted an OBP of .318.

Eaglecrest's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Golden, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Eaglecrest will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Rock Canyon at 4:00 p.m. As for Golden, they will head out on the road to take on Green Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Demons their first taste of in-conference action this season.
