Baseball Game Preview: Marmion Cadets vs. Willowbrook Warriors

The Marmion Cadets will head out to take on the Willowbrook Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Marmion managed to slip by Fenwick the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cadets came up short against the Friars on Saturday, falling 16-5. The Cadets' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Marmion got a good showing from Nicholas Proctor, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Proctor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marmion saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Ferris, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Zander Kragt also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Willowbrook waltzed into their contest on Saturday with 25 straight wins... but they left with 26. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Mikey Garner looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Ben Swanson was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Dasbach, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Willowbrook's victory bumped their record up to 27-4. As for Marmion, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-17.
