Baseball Recap: Woodbridge Victorious

After only two runs in their last matchup, Woodbridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against First State Military Academy on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 12-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Kole Vodvarka and CJ Walsch made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Vodvarka struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Walsch pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Vodvarka has become a key player for Woodbridge: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 6-8 otherwise. At the plate, Vodvarka got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Walsch went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Vodvarka a new career-high.

In other batting news, Woodbridge let Daulton McCabe and James Adams run wild. McCabe went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Adams went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Adams a new career-high.

Woodbridge now has a winning record of 9-8. As for First State Military Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodbridge will face off against Smyrna at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for First State Military Academy, they will challenge Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
