Texas has gone a perfect 10-0 against Tyler recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Texas took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Lufkin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Panthers 3-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since August 15th.
Texas took Lufkin into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10.
Among those leading the charge was Sydney Woods, who had 20 digs and one assist. Zanasia Nelson also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Texas was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last seven contests.
Meanwhile, Tyler was able to grind out a solid victory over Nacogdoches on Tuesday, taking the game 3-1.
Tyler had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 30-28, 25-18, 25-21.
Tyler's win bumped their record up to 13-17. As for Texas, they pushed their record up to 19-15 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Everything went Texas' way against Tyler in their previous meeting back in September, as Texas made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
