Basketball Recap: Smethport Comes Up Short

Smethport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 41-12 loss at the hands of the Oswayo Valley Green Wave. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hubbers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-7 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Smethport saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madelyn McKean posted seven points and six rebounds. Payton Neff was another key player, putting up two points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Smethport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Smethport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Oswayo Valley, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

Smethport didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-45 loss against Cameron County on the 24th. Oswayo Valley has also already played their next match, a 37-28 defeat against Coudersport on the 24th.
