Apalachee fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Winder-Barrow on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs by a score of 5-4. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Russell Malcom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Apalachee is 2-1 when Malcom posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JJ Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Apalachee's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-8. As for Winder-Barrow, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

While Apalachee had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
