Football Recap: Albuquerque Piles Up the Points Against Atrisco Heritage Academy

There's no place like home for Albuquerque, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars 28-0 on Friday. The Bulldogs' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Julian Madera was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 22 yards and one TD. Those 79 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Albuquerque also got a significant boost from Alberto Landeros, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 117 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Albuquerque was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Albuquerque didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of James Montano and Roman Viscarra.

Albuquerque now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Albuquerque will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Los Lunas at 11:00 a.m. on October 4. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they have already played their next contest, a 37-13 defeat against Sandia on the 26th.
