Basketball Recap: Fernanda Lazo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Watsonville over Hollister

Watsonville fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Hollister on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 68-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hollister Haybalers. The Wildcatz were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Haybalers earlier this season, when they won 43-39.

Watsonville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fernanda Lazo, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Those 12 points gave Lazo a new career-high. Stephanie Martinez was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Watsonville's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Hollister, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Watsonville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 70-16 victory against Everett Alvarez on the 30th. As for Hollister, they have also already played their next game, a 58-33 win against Soledad on the 3rd.
