Basketball Game Preview: Hesperia Scorpions vs. Claremont Wolfpack

The Hesperia Scorpions and the Claremont Wolfpack will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hesperia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.

Hesperia saw some tournament action last Saturday. They came up short against Roosevelt, falling 60-37. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while the Mustangs are ranked 72nd).

The losing side was boosted by Berlynn Miramontes, who posted 15 points. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Annabel Sanchez, who had four points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hesperia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Claremont waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Mustangs 55-13. The Wolfpack pushed the score to 48-10 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs had no chance of recovering from.

Claremont's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Hesperia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
