Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Northgate's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Northgate's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 40-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Campus Warriors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Broncos came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Warriors are ranked 212th).

Northgate lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Maddison Sardelich, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. Sardelich is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Samantha Myhr was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Even though they lost, Northgate smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Northgate's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for West Campus, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Northgate will take on San Leandro at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for West Campus, they will square off against Fortune Early College at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
