Baseball Recap: Hebron Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Hebron Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 8-5 to the Stephens County Indians. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Anthony Ponzio was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Thomas Stallworth and Dean Livingston did some serious damage despite the final result: Stallworth went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Livingston scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hebron Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Stephens County, their record now sits at 13-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hebron Christian will head out to face off against Prince Avenue Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Prince Avenue Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Hebron Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Stephens County, they will venture away from home to square off against Hart County at 5:55 p.m. on Monday. Hart County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.52 runs per game on average), something Stephens County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
