Basketball Recap: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Ramona Bulldogs

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Mt. Carmel Sundevils's strategy against the Ramona Bulldogs on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mt. Carmel blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 65-24 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-11.

Leading Mt. Carmel to victory were Grace Weede and Roxie James. Weede scored 15 points along with eight assists and three steals, while James dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Weede posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Lacey Quintanilla, who scored seven points along with two steals.

The victory makes it two in a row for Mt. Carmel and bumps their season record up to 8-17. As for Ramona, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-19 record this season.

Mt. Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Morse presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Sundevils in California (the Tigers are ranked 228th, while the Sundevils are ranked 869th). As for Ramona, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Escondido focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
