Softball Recap: Sonoraville Comes Up Short

Sonoraville fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Cartersville on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 3-2. The Phoenix were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.

Lila Mullinax was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sonoraville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Angel, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Sonoraville's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Cartersville, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Sonoraville will challenge Kell at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cartersville, they will head out on the road to take on Cedartown at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
