Football Recap: Chapman Comes Up Short

Chapman had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it eight. They had to suffer through a 57-12 loss at the hands of the Rock Creek Mustangs. Having soared to a lofty 36 points in the game before, the Irish couldn't push the score so high this time.

Chapman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dominic Krogman and Colton Bell.

As for Rock Creek, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.6 points on average this season.

Rock Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zion Bell led the charge by rushing for 146 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Bell's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 110 rushing yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Tate Smith, who threw for 220 yards and five touchdowns.

Chapman and Rock Creek are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Irish will head out to square off against Andale on Thursday. The Indians' defense has only allowed 7.9 points per game this season, so Chapman's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Rock Creek, they will take on Smoky Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will be up against the Vikings' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.63 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
