Baseball Game Preview: Woodward Academy War Eagles vs. Westminster Wildcats

The Woodward Academy War Eagles will take on the Westminster Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodward Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Woodward Academy will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against LaGrange on Wednesday. The War Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Grangers. Considering the War Eagles have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dominic Veneri tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Spencer Norman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Carson Conners was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Westminster hadn't done well against Lovett recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lions 5-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Westminster's victory bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Woodward Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 18-5 record this season.
