Basketball Recap: Camelback Takes a Loss

Camelback dropped to 10-14 on Tuesday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a blow against the Cesar Chavez Champions, falling 83-27. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Champions are ranked 79th).

Camelback lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kyliana Massey, who posted ten points. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

As for Cesar Chavez, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points over those games.

Cesar Chavez's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Ballard, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to six assists and four steals. Jaiden Stokes was another key player, going 8-for-13 en route to 21 points and six rebounds.

Camelback wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-28 defeat against Apollo on the 11th. As for Cesar Chavez, they have also already played their next game, a 57-13 victory against South Mountain on the 11th.
