Minnesota River recap September 24, 2013
Belle Plaine scaled the state rankings by moving to 102 from 158 this week, the biggest jump in Minnesota River. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Jordan 12-6.
Tri-City United [Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center] extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Le Sueur-Henderson, 49-3. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Titans.
Joel Burfeind was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 165 yards on 19 carries as Mayer Lutheran defeated Norwood-Young America. Teammate Nathan Weber added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.
Brett Johnson put up the best numbers through the air as Watertown-Mayer topped Sibley East. He had a total of 8 completions for 69 yards. Johnson's favorite target this week was Hunter Hulley, who caught 3 passes for 23 yards.
Gruenhagen was the best receiver in Minnesota River this week as the Crusaders defeated the Raiders. Gruenhagen tallied 3 receptions for 53 yards.
Burfeind was a passing and rushing force as Mayer Lutheran beat Norwood-Young America.
Mayer Lutheran's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Cole Buttenhoff has thrown for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, while Gruenhagen has 19 catches for 235 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mark Hasse's team takes on Belle Plaine. The Crusaders are currently in fourth, while Justin Johnston's team is in second.
The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,779 from 8,298. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 12-6 victory over the Hubmen/Jaguars last week.
