Basketball Recap: Freedom Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Freedom hadn't done well against Heritage recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Freedom Falcons skirted past the Heritage Patriots 51-49. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Patriots are ranked 534th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Freedom got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eve Monzon out in front who posted ten points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariel De La O, who had 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Gelenna Smithers and Lily Wilright certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Smithers put up 12 points along with seven boards and three steals, while Wilright posted eight points and 12 rebounds.

Freedom's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Heritage, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-5.

Freedom didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-25 win against Rio Vista on the 19th. As for Heritage, they will be taking part in a tournament against Trabuco Hills at 7:30 p.m. on December 26th.
