Softball Game Preview: Irwin County Indians vs. Berrien Rebels

Irwin County is 2-8 against Berrien since September of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Indians will venture away from home to take on the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Irwin County will be looking to extend their current 19-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Irwin County made easy work of Fitzgerald and carried off a 21-2 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Lyla Moore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August.

In other batting news, Sailor Mixon was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Bridges, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Berrien came up short against Lanier County on Thursday, falling 12-6. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Irwin County's record now sits at 21-2. As for Berrien, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-19.

Irwin County couldn't quite get it done against Berrien in their previous matchup back in August as they fell 4-1. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
