Preview: Christian Brothers vs. Manteca
The Christian Brothers Falcons will square off against the Manteca Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Christian Brothers had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They beat the Jaguars by a goal, winning 2-1. Christian Brothers found success even though the refs didn't miss a thing: four Christian Brothers players were handed yellow cards.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Bailey Rakela and
Marisela Gaeta, who scored both of Christian Brothers' goals. The pair have combined for a total of 15 so far this season.
Meanwhile, Manteca kept a clean sheet against Del Campo on Saturday. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 2-0. Given Manteca's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Del Campo is ranked 482nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Christian Brothers' win bumped their record up to 9-4-5. As for Manteca, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which somehow isn't as good as their 22-2-3 record this season.
