Recap: Tri-Valley Bulldogs vs. Mahanoy Area Golden Bears

This season hasn't been kind to the Tri-Valley Bulldogs, who are still winless after their 12th game. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 38-37 to Mahanoy Area. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Tri-Valley of the 35-23 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Tri-Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cassie Huntzinger. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points. That was a full 35.1% of Tri-Valley's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Header, who scored eight points.

Tri-Valley bumped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Mahanoy Area, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7.

Tri-Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Halifax at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Halifax comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Mahanoy Area, they will be playing at home against Schuylkill Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Schuylkill Haven's defense has only allowed 23 points per game this season, so Mahanoy Area's offense will have their work cut out for them.
