Basketball Recap: Oakdale Takes a Loss

Oakdale was the 33-24 winner over West when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Oakdale Mustangs fell 46-36 to the West Wolfpack on Monday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West found their leader in sophomore Kaliyah Byrd, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Byrd has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Cardoso, who posted five points along with seven assists and six steals.

Oakdale now has a losing record at 7-8. As for West, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.

Oakdale will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on East Union at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. As for West, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-31 loss against Pittsburg on the 27th.
