Recap: Brea Olinda Wildcats vs. Canyon Comanches
After flying high against the Yorba Linda Mustangs on Wednesday, the Brea Olinda Wildcats came back down to earth. Brea Olinda fell 57-49 to Canyon on Friday. While losing is never fun, Brea Olinda can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while Canyon is ranked 174th).
Brea Olinda's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Sanborn, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Mariah Henderson, who scored 12 points.
Brea Olinda has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Canyon, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brea Olinda won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sonora at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Sonora has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14. Canyon is on the road again on Saturday and play against Sunny Hills at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Sunny Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
