Basketball Recap: Philipsburg-Osceola Takes a Loss

Philipsburg-Osceola lost against Clearfield back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers took a blow against the Clearfield Bison, falling 50-21. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 604th, while the Bison are ranked 254th).

Philipsburg-Osceola's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddy Malinich, who posted ten points and three steals. Emily Gustkey was another key player, putting up six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Philipsburg-Osceola and nudges their season record down to 1-10. As for Clearfield, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Philipsburg-Osceola won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Penns Valley Area at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clearfield, they will head out to take on Bellwood-Antis at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
