Football Recap: Clay Center Takes a Loss

After flying high against Chapman last Friday, Clay Center came back down to earth. The Tigers were dealt a 45-7 defeat at the hands of the Rock Creek Mustangs on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 12, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Rock Creek was led to victory by Tate Smith and Zion Bell. Smith threw for 271 yards and two TDs while completing 80% of his passes, while Bell rushed for 110 yards and three scores. Bell is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season.

Clay Center's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Rock Creek, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Clay Center has already played their next contest (against Concordia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Rock Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-14 victory against Marysville on the 10th.
