Softball Recap: Westover Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Westover came into Saturday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Calhoun County Cougars on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Patriots also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2015.

Chamya Astin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Yukari Edwards was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Polite, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Westover's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Calhoun County, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Westover is taking a road trip to square off against Deerfield-Windsor at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun County will be paying especially close attention to the Patriots' contest: after the Patriots face off against the Knights, they'll take on Calhoun County again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
