Basketball Recap: Merced Piles Up the Points Against Hughson

Merced won the last time they faced Hughson and things went their way on Friday too. The Merced Bears claimed a resounding 54-25 victory over the Hughson Huskies.

Merced found their leader in sophomore Averie Steverson, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Steverson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonia Lejarde, who posted nine points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Merced was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win got Merced back to even at 7-7. As for Hughson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Merced wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-34 victory against Orestimba on the 28th. As for Hughson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-35 defeat against Argonaut on the 28th.
