Baseball Recap: Middletown Sets Scoring Season-High Against Rogers

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Middletown). They were the clear victors by a 17-9 margin over the Rogers Vikings on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Islanders, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kenny Pirches made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Ryan Johnson was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Agren, who went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Middletown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Middletown has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Rogers, they dropped their record down to 5-14 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home.

Middletown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rogers, they will face off against Johnston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
