They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars on Thursday. On the bright side, the 40- point performance marked the Lions' highest-scoring game to date.

Despite the defeat, Lawrence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joey Dooley threw for 228 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 43 yards and one score. A healthy portion of Dooley's aerial production (95 yards to be exact) went to Jaxon Becker, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Lawrence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shawnee Mission Northwest, they will square off against Lawrence Free State on Friday.
