It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lawrence can now relate to. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars on Thursday. On the bright side, the 40- point performance marked the Lions' highest-scoring game to date.

Despite the defeat, Lawrence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joey Dooley threw for 228 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 43 yards and one score. A healthy portion of Dooley's aerial production (95 yards to be exact) went to Jaxon Becker, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Traimyre Woodruff produced another solid effort rushing for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per carry for Shawnee Mission Northwest. Woodruff is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Demetric Tyler was another major influence, as he rushed for 124 yards and ran in a TD.

Lawrence's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Shawnee Mission Northwest, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Lawrence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shawnee Mission Northwest, they will square off against Lawrence Free State on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Firebirds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.63 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
