Football Recap: Kearns Cougars vs. Hunter Wolverines
Kearns extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They had to suffer through a 51-14 loss at the hands of the Hunter Wolverines. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Wolverines from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
Although Kearns took the loss, they still got scores from Niko Niko Manusina-Faamausili and Manuel Deegan.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Niko Manusina-Faamausili, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Hunter, their win bumped their record up to 3-4. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Hunter was led to victory by Isi Moungaafi and Ridhwan Aweis. Moungaafi rushed for 77 yards and three scores on only nine carries, while Aweis rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Moungaafi a new career-high.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Kearns will take on rival Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hunter is set to square off against their familiar foe Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
