Softball Recap: Monett Wins Going Away Against Branson

Monett barely beat Branson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cubs put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 7-1 victory on Monday. The Cubs have beaten the Pirates the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.

Kilee Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Wilson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Kamilla Rodriguez was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. She also put up two hits, which were her first of the season. Emma Velten was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Monett picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-9. As for Branson, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Monett will take on Nevada at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Branson, they will challenge Bolivar at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
