Baseball Recap: Central Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Wauconda Bulldogs 9-8. That's two games straight that the Rockets have won by just one run.

Connor Sreckov made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wagner Viebrock, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 11-16-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of David Hintz, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Central and bumps their season record up to 14-17-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Wauconda, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-10.

Coming up, Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Jacobs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Wauconda, they will head out to challenge Deerfield at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
