Wolverines' standout led squad to second straight CIF Open Division title; Greg Daniels of Monterey is Coach of the Year.

Leading his basketball team to a second straight CIF Open Division state championship, Trent Perry of Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) has been selected as the MaxPreps California Player of the Year.

Greg Daniels of Monterey is the state Coach of the Year. Perry and Daniels top the MaxPreps California All-State Team, which includes 30 players on six teams.

Perry was earlier recognized as the MaxPreps California Player of the Year after leading the Wolverines to an Open Division championship over Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond). Perry also led Harvard-Westlake to the Southern Section Open Division title against Roosevelt (Eastvale). He averaged 18 points on the season and was also a MaxPreps All-American. Originally a USC commit, he opened up his recruitment after coach Andy Enfield left for SMU.

Daniels led Monterey to its first basketball state championship with a 74-66 win over Chatsworth, the No. 1 seed from the Southern California regionals. The Dores were seeded No. 14 in the Division IV NorCal Regional after losing to Santa Cruz in the Central Coast Section Division III semifinals. Monterey then knocked off No. 3 Sierra, No. 6 Lincoln, No. 2. Natomas and No. 4 Union Mine before edging Chatsworth in the finals.

Daniels is in his 19th year and has 315 career wins, according to totals compiled from Monterey's MaxPreps team page.
