Baseball Game Preview: Thomson Bulldogs vs. Washington County Golden Hawks

The Thomson Bulldogs will square off against the Washington County Golden Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Thomson 3.3, Washington County 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Thomson turned things around against Lincoln County on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Red Devils. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Dalton Gergen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tre Lazenby was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Charlie Ducey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Washington County has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.41 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Academy for Classical Education.

Washington County's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7. As for Thomson, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
