Football Recap: Florence Comes Up Short

Florence lost against Round Valley back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gophers came up short against the Elks, falling 39-14. The Gophers were down 32-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Florence lost, don't look at Brody Ramirez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 24 yards and six scores, and also threw for 115 yards and one TD on only five passes.

Round Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kage Finch out in front who threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns. What's more, Finch racked up 139.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Titan Myers was in the mix too, providing Round Valley with two TDs.

Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Round Valley, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against ALA - Ironwood at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Round Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Pima at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
