Basketball Game Preview: Salesian College Preparatory Pride vs. St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats

The Salesian College Preparatory Pride will take on the St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory is hoping to do what Monte Vista couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Salesian College Preparatory's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Salesian College Preparatory took down Monte Vista 60-41. Given the Pride's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Mustangs are ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jamia Sawyer was her usual excellent self, putting up 26 points along with eight boards and seven steals. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Oriannah Birden, who posted six points in addition to 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Ignatius College Preparatory). They blew past Los Gatos 74-54 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Salesian College Preparatory, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Salesian College Preparatory didn't have too much breathing room in their game against St. Ignatius College Preparatory in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, but they still walked away with a 52-48 win. Does Salesian College Preparatory have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Ignatius College Preparatory turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
