Basketball Recap: Dylan Parker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cape Fear over Lumberton

Cape Fear lost against Lumberton back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cape Fear Colts took a hard 66-52 fall against the Lumberton Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Pirates are ranked 120th).

Cape Fear's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Parker, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points. The dominant performance also gave Parker a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Chosen Wynn, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Jaiden Shephard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lumberton, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Shephard is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 46 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Jones, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Cape Fear and nudges their season record down to 10-10. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Lumberton, they pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Cape Fear has already played their next matchup, a 67-58 win against Gray's Creek on the 14th. As for Lumberton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 80-48 victory against Purnell Swett on the 14th.
